During out trip too Norway we participated in a two day ‘innovation camp'. The camp was held inside the Norwegian school, Skarnes Videregaende Skole. Our main goal over the two day period was to create a product or service that would have a positive effect on the environment and help combat global warming. Firstly we were divided into teams enabling us to mix with different students of each nationality. We were then set a series of tasks throughout the day. |

The United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark from 7th to 18th of December is the 15th meeting between the parties to the UN Climate Convention. The target is to make an ambitious climate agreement regarding the period after the Kyoto agreement, thus after 2012.
The Kyoto agreement
The Kyoto agreement was made 11th of December 1997 in Kyoto, Japan. It officially came into force in February 2005, when Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, signed the agreement. Then countries that caused 55% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions had signed the agreement.
The target of this agreement is to reduce the emissions of Carbon dioxide (CO₂), Methane (CH₄), Nitrous Oxide (N₂O), Hydrofluorocarbons (HFC), Perfluorocarbons (PFC) and Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF₆) to at least 5 percent under the 1990-level, in a commitment period from 2008 to 2012.

Recently a group of 16 students from TyneMet Sixth Form Academy travelled to Carpi in Northern Italy as part of the international Comenius project, focussed on studying climate change and global warming.
The project connects three schools, ITI Leonardo da Vinci in Italy, Skarnes Technical College in Norway and TyneMet Sixth Form in North Shields.
The trip was an opportunity for the students to meet for a second time, after the initial visit from our partners to TyneMet in February 2009. They combined their knowledge and discussed ideas on how to raise awareness of climate change, and reduce its effects on our world.
